Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Rawalpindi has set up flood rapid response units in various areas to provide help in case of flood-like situation anywhere especially in the low-lying areas of the city.
The city has been divided into four zones and the flood rapid response units set up in different areas including Moti Mahal, Commercial Market (Satellite Town), Khyaban-e-Sir Syed, Bagh Sardaran and Liaquat Bagh.
A free helpline 1334 has also been set up so the residents can make a call on this number in any kind of emergency after which the staff workers of the rapid response units would immediately reach the targeted area and provide help to them.
Wasa managing director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said heavy machinery including Sucker machines, jetting machines, sewer cleaning roding machines, dewatering sets and water boozers have been provided at the rapid response units to cope with any emergency situation.
He said a special monitoring unit under the supervision of Rescue 1122 has also been set up at Municipal Corporation Office with alert teams of Wasa, Wapda, Sui Gas and Rescue1122.
"Wasa has taken extraordinary measures this year to avert any flooding during the monsoon season by further widening the nullah especially in areas including Gawalmandi, City Saddar Road, Dhoke Chiraghdin, Pirwadhai, New Katarian and Dhoke Naju.
He said the members of flood response units would work round-the-clock in shifts and also monitor the water level in low-lying areas during rains.
