Shahbaz congratulates nation on Sahiwal project

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated the nation over production of 1320megawatt electricity from the Sahiwal coal power plant. He said that the second turbine of the plant had also started producing 660 megawatt electricity on a trial basis; while the first turbine was already producing 660 megawatt electricity. By the grace of Allah Almighty and due to the sincere efforts of the present government, this plant is now producing a total of 1320 megawatt electricity and it is also a matter of pride that the plant has been completed in a record period of time, he added.

NAB arrests two in fraud case

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore on Friday arrested Irfan Ali Shah and Syed Awais Ahmad Shah from Lahore in Rs35.23 million fraud case. According to the NAB spokesman, the accused persons used to collect money in advance from general public to give them motorbikes, UPS, LED etc but fled the scene after collecting huge money from public. Accused Irfan Ali Shah was director of a private company. He was also a spiritual leader (peer) of Makoana, Faisalabad. The co-accused Syed Awais Ahmed Shah also established some franchises on behalf of that company. NAB Lahore launched verification against the accused in 2015 against a complaint received through intelligence sources and a proper inquiry was launched on the directives of NAB DG Lahore which was converted into investigation in 2016. After collecting evidences, NAB Lahore arrested the accused persons and presented them before Accountability Court for acquiring their physical remand.

Proclaimed offender arrested

LAHORE: FIA Lahore on Friday arrested a proclaimed offender (PO). According to an FIA official, the accused was identified as Nadeem Abbas, a resident of Hafizabad. Nadeem, said to be operation manager in a bank in Hafizabad, admitted documents of property with fake thumb impression of property owner for sanction of loan worth Rs9 million in 2007.

Shahbaz greets Sharmeen Chinoy

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated the Oscar Award winner Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for winning the Knight International Journalism Award.In his message of felicitations, the chief minister said that winning of award from International Centre for Journalists is an honour for the nation and her success has again brought laurels home. The nation feels proud of intelligent women like Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, he added.The chief minister said that after winning the Oscar Award two times, winning of Knight International Journalism Award proved that Pakistani women are not inferior to anybody in abilities and talent. He advised other Pakistani women to exhibit their talents in practical field like Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for the development and prosperity of the country.

Hot and dry weather forecast for country

LAHORE: Mercury continued to rise in the provincial capital here on Friday while the Met office predicted a very hot weather during the next 24 hours.

Met officials said that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. They predicted that mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while very hot weather is likely over upper Sindh and its adjoining areas of Balochistan, plain areas of Punjab and KP.

No rainfall was recorded in anywhere in the country. Friday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Dadu and Sibbi where the mercury reached 48°C while in Lahore, it was
41°C, minimum was 27.3°C and humidity was 20 percent.
