"When the crackdown was launched against beggars it seemed difficult to curb this illegal activity but I think the police have done a good job in line with the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan," said Sarfraz Abbasi, a shopkeeper in Aabpara Market.

It is pertinent to mention here that the heads of all police stations were directed to launch effective crackdown on alm-seekers and ensure registration of cases against them after their arrest. Following the directions, the Islamabad Police constituted teams that patrolled shopping centres and markets and arrest professional beggars and took action against them as per law.

Nazia Shakeel, a visitor at Super Market, said begging has become a roaring business and there was a time when different groups of beggars could be seen chasing the visitors in every nook and corner of the market.
