FIR registered, constable sent on three-day judicial remand

Police Constable Faqeer Mohammad, the security guard accused in the murder case of Umair Shahab, the son of Peshawar DIG Inspections and Enquiries Shahab Mazhar, was sent on a three day judicial remand on Sunday.

Along with the suspect’s remand, an FIR of the case was also registered at the Darakshan police station yesterday, on the complaint of Umair's mother.

The 22-year-old victim was allegedly murdered on Saturday by a police constable deployed for security at the DIG’s bungalow situated on Khayaban-e-Sehar, DHA.

According to the initial post-mortem report, it could be possible that the DIG's son died of cardiac arrest following an attempt at strangulation. Moreover, there rope marks on the deceased's neck but there were no signs on the body indicating a violent struggle.

Talking to The News, SSP Saqib Ismail Memon said Umair Shahab was strangulated to death inside his room by PC Faqeer Mohammad. who had been taken into custody.

During the preliminary investigation, the police guard, who had been performing duty at the DIG’s bungalow for the last six months, said he was supposed to pay off a personal debt of two hundred thousand rupees and, therefore, he had requested the DIG’s wife to give him money.

SSP Memon said an argument had broken out between the DIG’s son and the police guard, who later used a rope and gloves to end Umair’s life inside his room during the wee hours of Saturday.

He added that the accused, who belongs to the Kashmore district police but was deployed for security duty at the DIG's residence, was changing his statements regarding the murder motive. but a probe had been initiated to find out the truth.

Policeman injured by stray bullet

A police constable serving with the Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department suffered injuries as he was struck by a stray bullet in the city’s Old Sabzi Mandi area on Sunday.

Though initial reports suggested the victim was targeted, police officials said, Head Constable Zulfikar Ali, 50, was injured by a stray bullet.

He was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where his condition was said to be out of danger.

Man shot in New Karachi

A man was shot and injured in the city’s New Karachi area on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, an unidentified man opened fire on Kamran Ali, 22, son of Khalil Ahmed in New Karachi. He was critically wounded and was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Road mishap

A man died in a traffic accident in the city’s Orangi town area on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, 26-year-old Zahid Ali, son of Abdul Sattar was critically injured when he was hit by an unknown vehicle in Orangi Town.

Body found

A three-day-old body of a man was found from the city’s Garden area.

Police said the victim was identified as 35-year-old Akram Ali.
