DPO warns against misuse of jirgas

MANSEHRA: A police official here on Tuesday warned strict action against people who use jirga system for their personal gains. "We want people to approach dispute resolution councils (DRCs) for resolving the issues," District Police Officer (DPO) Ahsan Saifullah told a news conference here. The official said that mostly jirgas decisions were made in violation of country's laws. "We arrested all jirga members in Oghi who handed over a girl as vani to a rival party to settle an honour-related case," he added.

Ishtiaq Baig leaves for Dubai, the Philippines

KARACHI: FPCCI Vice President Ishtiaq Baig has left for Dubai and Philippines for a one-week tour. He will be a speaker at the seminar organised by the OIC in Dubai on “Impact of Brexit on Muslim countries”. He will also visit the Philippines and will meet the envoy of Pakistan to the Philippines Safdar Hayat and President Pakistan Philippines Business Council Aslam Khan and members of the council.

CADD given grant for salaries of daily wage employees

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has approved immediate release of Rs290.706 million worth of supplementary grant to Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD) for payment of salaries to Daily Wage Employees (including both teaching and non-teaching staffers) in educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education. According to the Finance Ministry’s announcement made here on Tuesday, the Finance Minister accorded the approval taking compassionate view of the fact that the salaries were long due and the employees were facing serious economic difficulties.

Govt asked to bring killersof Mashal to justice

DARGAI: Senior Minister for Irrigation and Social Welfare Sikandar Hayat Sherpao on Tuesday asked the government to bring the killers of the Mashal Khan to justice. Speaking at a public gathering here, the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader condemned the barbaric incident at the Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan. He said that such inhuman acts reflected that people with thuggish mentality wanted to hijack the religion of peace.

JI leader welcomes SC notice on Mashal murder

LAHORE: JI Secretary-General Liaqat Baloch has welcomed the suo motu notice by Chief Justice of Sthe C on Mardan University incident and said all those responsible for the gruesome murder must be dealt with in accordance with the law.Speaking at a meeting with Ulema and Mashaikh at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said the murder of a student by a mob at the university was most condemnable as an act of lawlessness and intolerance. An individual, a group, any institution or even the state had no right to indulge in lawlessness. It was the responsibility of the state and the judiciary to act against those violating the law, he added.

Another Bedian Road blast victim dies

LAHORE: Another victim of the Bedian Road blast succumbed to his injuries at hospital raising the death toll to eight on Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Lance Naik Shamshad Ahmad, a resident of Multan.The victim was admitted to the CMH after the blast on census team on Bedian Road on April 5.

NAB recovers money from Lesco defaulters

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore Director General (DG) Shehzad Saleem on Tuesday handed over a cheque for Rs 22.25 million to Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) Director Customer Services Khalid Mehmood. According to a spokesman, the cheque was the amount recovered from the Lahore Electric Supply Company defaulters.

Lahore student injured in fire

LAHORE: A student suffered burns and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were burnt when a fire erupted at a school at Qila Lakshman Singh in the Qila Gujjar Singh police area on Tuesday. Firefighters of Rescue 1122 put out the fire. The victim student was identified as Samiullah Rafiq. The fire had erupted due to a short-circuit.

CSI vans in federal capital

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday conditionally extended ban on the entry of Maulvi Iqbal Haider, senior advocate to apex court, for five years. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar dismissed an application moved by Haider under Article184/3.
