IST Youth Carnival comes to an end

IST Youth Carnival (IYC) concluded at Institute of Space Technology (IST) here on Saturday evening. A mega event of its own kind continued for four days from April 12-15, 2017 featured 109 competitions and activities with the participation of over 4000 students from 40 universities of Pakistan. Foundation University emerged as the winner of the IYC 2017.

The carnival encompassed diverse blend of events providing means of interest to a wide variety of aptitudes. The students were encouraged to display their oratory, planning, technical, artistic and cognitive skills while participating in various competitions and develop a broader vision and tolerance towards others.

A prize distribution ceremony was organized to acknowledge the winners of different competitions during IST Youth Carnival. Dr. Iqbal Rasool Memon Dean IST graced the occasion as chief guest. While speaking on the occasion he appreciated the role of IST in providing a splendid platform to the students where they are able to demonstrate and refine their oratory, artistic, technical and cognitive skills. He said that Youth Carnival 2017 concluded as a great success and offered a much needed platform to the university students from all across Pakistan to establish networking and develop links that would pave a way for cooperation and collaboration in future. He appreciated the efforts of Students executive council under the leadership of Usama Ahmed and his team of 400 IST students.

IYC 17’ participants showcased their abilities in the arena of literature, writing and performing arts by participating in English and Urdu Journalism, poetry contest and Baitbaazi while the creative writing events included Urdu and English essay, story and script writing, along with micro fiction. The students’ talent in performing arts was judged in the drama, dance, singing and mime competitions.

A wide range of fine arts, media and graphic arts events like painting, calligraphy, sketching, wall graffiti, visage canvas, T-shirt and E-poster designing, Dubsmash and Mannequin challenge and comics were organized. The E-gaming contests included competitions of COD4, DOTA2, Counter Strike 1.6 and FIFA 14.

Sports were another highlight of the IYC’17. It included cricket, table tennis and lawn tennis, basketball and futsal. Many technical events were organized in IYC’17, belonging to the categories of Electrical Engineering Design, Software and Coding, Mechanical Design and Development, Aerospace Design and Application, Investigation and Inquiries, Material Design and Application and Space Exploration and Discoveries. Each of these segments of events included a number of competitions which enabled the participants to exhibit their technical and engineering knowledge and apply it to the practical situations.

The participants were given a chance to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in competitions like Naat and Qiraat. Their speaking and presentational skills were judged in competitions of Bilingual declamation contest, extempore speech, environmental moot, reinventing the machines, applied engineering challenge and smart innovation challenge. The business and management events included make a product and sell it, marketing techniques, fashion entrepreneurial challenge, start your business without investment, and start your business with CPEC.
