As many as 1,457 schools owe more than Rs202 million to the power utility and KE officials claim that the dues have been pending for some time.

“Despite several notices, complete payments have not been made,” said an official, adding that the KE had disconnected the power supply to 224 schools over their failure to pay up dues totalling over Rs130 million.

In a letter sent last month to the director of schools and education, the power utility appealed to the management to ensure payments so that the students did not face any difficulty during the examinations.

The KE has requested the authorities concerned to ensure the payment of the dues for the betterment of students and the education system.
