145 Pakistan Civil Awards to be given today

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has approved conferment of 145 Pakistan Civil Awards which will be given today (March 23). The awards will be given at ceremonies to be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Governor’s Houses and Joint Staff Headquarters.

40kg heroin seized in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: The police seized 40 kilograms of heroin and arrested a drug-trafficker in Sardaryab area falling in the limits of the City Police Station on Wednesday, an official said. Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Iftikhar Shah said that acting on a tip-off regarding the smuggling of heroin, the police signalled a vehicle to stop near Sardaryab checkpost. He said that on thorough search, the police recovered 40kg of heroin from the hidden cavities of the vehicle. The law-enforcers also arrested the drug-trafficker identified as Imran, son of, Ikramullah. After impounding the vehicle, the police registered the case and started investigation.

Accused of raping Chinese woman gets bail

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday granted bail to a man allegedly involved in a rape of a Chinese woman. Justice Sarfraz Ahmad Dogar allowed bail to suspect Faraz Shahid subject to furnishing surety bonds of Rs300,000. Wahdat Road police had registered a case against the man. The suspect’s counsel argued before the court that the rape was not proved in medical examination of the alleged victim. He said the police had lodged a fabricated case against the petitioner.

Blasts damage railway track near Rohri

SUKKUR: The train service of uptrack was suspended when some unidentified people near the Rohri Railway Station and Mehrabpur blew up the tracks with a remote controlled bomb. Police and law enforcement agencies cordoned off the railway track and started the investigation process.Reports said that five-feet track near Rohri and 1.5 feet track near Mehrabpur were damaged in the blasts. The railway authorities said that repair of both tracks would take at least six hours.

Seven-year-old girl drowns

MULTAN: A seven-year-old girl drowned in the River Chenab on Wednesday. Muskan, a daughter of poor farmer Muhammad Nawaz, was grazing her cow by holding its rope along the bank of the river. By chance the cow slipped into the river taking her also into the water. Rescue 1122 fished out her body after hectic efforts of an hour.

Three injured as boulders hit vehicle in Kohistan

MANSEHRA: Three employees of the Forest Department sustained injures when heavy boulders fell on their vehicle in Chuchang area of Upper Kohistan on Wednesday. The officials including forester Abdul Ghani and forest guard Hazrat Bilal were on way in Barabah area when heavy boulders hit their jeep on Karakoram Highway.
