Former UHS VC honoured

LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission arranged a farewell for former Vice-Chancellor University of Health Sciences Maj-General (retd) Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam. Chief Operating Officer PHC Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan and senior officials of the commission welcomed him on his arrival at the office. According to a press release issued here on Monday, they held the ex-VC in high esteem for his services. Dr Muhammad Aslam, who is also a member of the PHC Technical Advisory Committee, appreciated the PHC for its efforts, especially the approach it had adopted for the implementation of the Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS) at the healthcare establishments. Dr Aslam also expressed confidence in the PHC to bring more improvements in the health sector of the Punjab.
Robber shot himself dead in Mashkel
QUETTA: An alleged robber shot himself dead near Pak-Iran borders in Mashkel area of Chaghi district. The police sources said on Monday that following on a tip-off, a police party conducted raid to arrest robbers when one of the robbers namely Abdul Basit shot himself dead. Another was taken into custody by police at the moment. Further probing was underway.
Cases of 52 forced disappearances disposed of

ISLAMABAD: The government institutions presented documents of 27 missing persons to the Inquiry Commission which has disposed of 52 cases of forced disappearances. The Inquiry Commission, formed by the federal government under the chairmanship of Justice (R) Javed Iqbal for the recovery of missing persons, has released report of 2017. The commission held hearing of 286 cases of missing persons and disposed of 35 cases during last month. Twenty-seven of these missing persons were recovered.
Tribal maliks reject Fata merger into KP

PESHAWAR: A group of tribal maliks (elders) at a press conference on Monday rejected the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with KP. The elders, including Malik Syed Mehmood Jan, Malik Nasrat Khan, Malik Amir Nawaz, Malik Aurangzeb and others believed that Fata the merger decision was being imposed on the tribespeople from outside. They insisted that they were not the representatives of political administration but represented their own tribes. The elders demanded holding of a referendum to decide the fate of tribespeople. They asked the government to postpone the reform programme till rehabilitation of all internally displaced persons.
German citizen of Pak origin recovered

NOWSHERA: The police recovered a resident of Jalozai within 48 hours of his kidnapping, an official said on Monday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pabbi Khankhel told reporters that unidentified persons had kidnapped Anwar Zeb, a German national of Pakistani origin, from Jalozai. He said the police constituted a team for recovery of the kidnapped person. The kidnapped person was recovered within 48 hours.
TMA staff salaries released

HANGU: The tehsil council on Monday released the salaries of staff of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) withheld for the past three months. Tehsil Nazim Hangu Amir Ghani issued the order of release of Rs14.5 million funds on the account of salaries and pension of TMA employees. Divisional Chairman of Municipal Employees Union Malik Tufail thanked the tehsil government for releasing the salaries and pensions, saying the employees and their families were facing immense hardships due to non-release of the salaries for three months.
Amn Jirga seeks support of govt

TAKHT BHAI: The Amn Jirga on Monday asked the government to support the organization in the fight against kidnapping, car-lifting and usury. Speaking at a public meeting here, Amn Jirga Chairman Syed Kamal Shah asked the government to help eliminate social ills. The speakers urged the people to announce social boycott of the families whose members were involved in heinous crimes. The speakers said that a handful of criminals had held the society hostage.
