A seminar titled ‘The Impacts of Child Labour and Our Social Responsibilities,’ was organised by National Council of Social Welfare (NCSW), here on Wednesday, press release.
The seminar was organised on the directive of Dr. Tariq Fazal Ch, Minister of State, Capital Administration and Development Division (CAD&D), Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik, chairman, National Council of Social Welfare chaired the seminar while, Fayyaz Ahmed Malik, Chief Policy and Planning, M/o Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development was the chief guest.
The representatives of civil society, NGOs and people working for the rights of children, officials of CADD and students attended the seminar. In his presidential address Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik said that the root cause of child labour is poverty. Child labour affected the Pakistani society adversely. The government has initiated several programmes to eradicate hunger and poverty. We should have to make family institution more powerful for the better future of the children. It is our collective responsibility to send our children to schools instead of forcing them for child labour.
No nation can get progress and prosperity by sidelining the education. It is necessary to take steps for the education and training of our children. Pakistan ratified several international treaties and protocols for the rights of children. Both public and private sectors are working for their rights.
Other speakers Fayyaz Ahmed, Sadia Hussain, Executive Director, SPARC and Muqadisa Mahreen, Child Protection Officer from Unicef said that many steps has been taken to eradicate child labour and protection of their rights but the need of time is to spread awareness among parents so that they may send their children to school.
