After discreet initial inquiries, action was taken against policemen involved in criminal or other illegal activities.

Sub-inspector Raja Imtiaz posted as the SDPO New Town office, ASI Bashir of the Brigade police station, ASI Arz Muhammad of the PIB police station, ASI Iqbal Mangi of the PIB police station, head constable Fakharuddin of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station, and constable Raees Ahmed of the Mehmoodabad police station were suspended over their links to criminals and drug dealers.

ASI Majid Korai was suspended for his involvement in land grabbing and illegal construction.

ASI Muhammad Ramzan of the Sachal police station was suspended for his ties with the area’s criminals and involvement in extortion.

Two constables of the Anti-Street Crime Squad Gulshan Division, constables Imran Ali and Jehangir, were found guilty of snatching a cell phone from a citizen, M Imran Memon, and will be punished.

In January this year, action had been taken against policemen serving in District East as two SHOs were suspended and reverted over increasing public complaints against them regarding illegal detentions and patronage of organised crime.

Apart from the suspensions, SHOs of six police stations in District East were also transferred and replaced. SSP East Jawed Jiskani took notice of the persistent complaints coming against the SHOs of Gulshan and Mobina Town. The nature of the complaints ranged from forceful and illegal detentions and promotion of organised crime activities, including extortion rackets. With suspension orders issued for both officers, a departmental inquiry had also been initiated.
