PM approves raise in management grade officials' salary

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved summary to give considerable raise in monthly salaries of 'baboos' working in Special Management Grades--MP-I, MP-II and MP-III--that would put additional financial burden worth million of rupees annually to the national exchequer, sources told The News here on Wednesday.

According to the details, the raise in Management Position Salary package would come into effect from 1st December, 2016 and the last raise in this respect was given on December 24, 2012 by the PPP-led government.

The record showed that the monthly salary of MP-I Scale officer has increased from maximum Rs333,000 to Rs3,55,300 maximum showing an increase of Rs. 22,000. A raise of Rs18,000 has been given to MP-II Scale officer who would now get maximum Rs196,600 as previous salary in this scale was Rs178,600. Similarly, the monthly salary of MP-III officer has been raised from Rs109,000 to Rs121,000 showing an increase of Rs12,000.

The monetised value for MP Scale holders would comprise MP-I Rs95,910, MP-II Rs77,430 and MP-III Rs65,060. According to Notification No. F.3(2)R-4/2011 issued by the Finance Division on December 24, 2012 the MP-I Scale officer was getting Rs75,000 in house rent and Rs9,750 in utilities while MP-II Scale officer was receiving Rs48,900 in house rent and Rs4,075 in utilities. The MP-III Scale officer was getting Rs24,450 in house rent and Rs2,855 in utilities.

It is yet not clear that how much raise would be given to MP Scale officers in house rent and utilities after new raise in their monthly salaries. The record also showed that an Ad-hoc Relief Allowance-2015 was also given to MP Scale officers on 1st July, 2015.

The sources pointed out that the MP scales packages, which were originally meant for the top men in a public sector enterprise, was offered in the previous governments to even subordinates in the federal ministries and divisions including even the Finance Ministry that was the author of these scales.

"Under the federal government a number of posts were earmarked as MP posts, which made it possible for favourite retired and serving officers to drawn hefty salary without any legal justification but merely by virtue of holding those positions that were offered to them by the competent authority," the sources said.
