As many as 831 students received degrees in various disciplines at the 13th convocation of Bahria University, Karachi Campus, held on Sunday.
Also, 35 degrees were awarded to students of BS Supply Chain Management, Pakistan Navy School of Logistics.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah NI (M) was the chief guest and conferred degrees on the graduating students of PhD, postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.
In total, 866 degrees were awarded to the undergraduate and graduate students of management sciences department, humanities and social sciences department, computer sciences department, earth and environmental sciences department, electrical engineering department, software engineering department and professional psychology department of BU, Karachi Campus.
Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah NI awarded 32 gold medals to Shahtaj Bano, Hafsa Agha, Syed Muhammad Ubaid Alavi, Mehak Mirza, Rubab Zehra, Tahreem Qureshi, Komal Aziz Memon, Sarah Tariq, Tariq Javaid, Nida Ahmed Farid, Sami Abid, Maham Zeeshan, Ayesha Saleem, Sidra Ashfaq, Maria Saeed, Muhammad Shafiq and Mohsin Ali Maroof from management sciences department; Yumnah Sajjad Khrbey from social sciences department; Muhammad Asim Arshad, Syed Muhammad Ali, Saqib Anwer from electrical engineering department; Amin Motiwala, Sania Rasheed, Huma Tabassum, Muhammad Tariq Hameed from computer sciences department; Pireh Pirzada, Asif Ali, Faiza Sabir from software engineering department; M. Imran Hafeez Abbasi from earth and environmental sciences department; and Sarwat Aziz, Muhammad Zain Waseem and Ambreen Ashraf from psychology department
Moreover, 23 silver medals were awarded to various students who achieved top positions in their respective programmes. Dr Amir Manzoor was awarded a PhD degree in the discipline of management sciences.
BU Pro-Chancellor Admiral Zakaullah said that the role of universities and educational institutions has become more significant in a time when there was a dire need to impart actually required education and fostering competencies to make productive citizens of Pakistan.
“Today, universities need to expand strategic networking with multinational corporations, public and private sectors, and research based institutions. The underlying theme of collaborative relationship is to understand each other’s needs and equipping the students with knowledge to help make them effective at their workplace; both locally and internationally.”
He claimed that new endeavours undertaken by the management of Bahria University with commitment and determination will yield the best results for all the stakeholders and will definitely provide competitive edge to BU to become the leading university of the country.
He expressed pleasure to see quite a good number of graduates in varied academic disciplines being produced by the university and said that the conferment of PhD scholars of Karachi Campus proves that the management of Bahria University is fully aware about the importance of research.
Earlier, in his welcome address, BU Rector Vice Admiral (Retired) Tanveer Faiz mentioned the efforts of the Bahria University for providing the most conducive academic environment, state-of-the art laboratories and highly qualified faculty for its postgraduate and undergraduate students.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of senior naval officers, parents of the graduating students and people from different walk of lives.
