Islamabad: The protection of human rights is a prerequisite for the establishment of a civilised and progressive society. This was stated by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in his message on the International Human Rights Day marked on Saturday (Dec 10).

The speaker said Islam gave the concept of equality for all human beings and ensured an environment of peaceful co-existence, which was free from discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, colour, sex, race and religion.

He said the Last Sermon of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on 'Hijatul Widah' was the universal declaration of human rights and therefore, respect of human rights was obligatory for every Muslim in light of the teaching of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the Constitution guaranteed the protection of public life, property and liberty regardless of religion, race, creed or colour. “A progressive, balanced and just society is the one, where the rights of all citizens are safeguarded through political, legal, economic, cultural and social instruments and frameworks,” he said.
