Family, friends and colleagues said their final farewells to slain traffic police officer Faiz Ali Shigri at a tearful funeral held at the Police Headquarters in Garden on Monday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shigri died after motorcycle-riding assailants fired gunshots at his chauffeur-driven official vehicle near a restaurant in Guslitan-e-Jauhar on Sunday. His driver, Head Constable Rasheed, is battling for his life at a private hospital.
The DSP’s funeral prayers were attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Rangers chief Major General Bilal Akbar, Inspector General of Police AD Khowaja and other senior police officers, besides family members and friends.
The chief minister and the Rangers and police chiefs offered condolences to the bereaved family and expressed their sympathies. They also paid tributes to the services of the slain police officer.
In a press statement, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly condemned the target killing of DSP Shigri at the hands of terrorists in Karachi and stressed the need for the elimination of terrorism from all over the country to restore peace.
He said terrorist networks appeared to have woven themselves across the country and an operation against them should cover all the breeding and facilitating grounds through a universal application of the National Action Plan without any discrimination.
The PPP leader expressed sympathies with Shigri’s family and asked the Sindh government and law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits and bring them to the book.
