Rootsians celebrate World Food Festival

All countries have recognisable cuisines, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices. For keeping the tasty flavour of dishes and to aware students about different countries and their cuisine Roots Schools, celebrated open day on the theme “Cuisines around the World”.

All branches set stalls of dishes of their opted countries from Grade I till VI. Students were also dressed up according to the country which they selected. All branches were beautifully adorned and students were wearing the cultural and traditional dresses of Asian countries i.e. Turkey, China, Pakistan, Saudi Arab, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iran, China, USA, UK, Singapore, Mexico, Spain, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Pakistani stall had Sindhi rice, ‘Chapli Kababs’, ‘Biryani’ and ‘Murgh Channa’. On Afghanistan’s stall ‘Kabli Pulao’, dry fruits and ‘Kehwa’ was presented. From Saudi Arabia’s stall students enjoyed the delicious taste of Arabian delights, ‘Shawarma’, ‘Humus’, ‘Kehwa’, olives, vinegar, Arabian pasta and dates. Bangladesh stall was also depicting the true culture by displaying fried fish, pineapple, ‘Daal Chawal’, fresh fruits, dry fruit, curry etc. At the Russian stall salad, rice, roast were available.

All students and teachers had a delightful experience of tasting Sri Lankan dishes also which included beef curry, yellow rice, lentil, ‘Polmansol’, Sri Lankan cutlets, cashew nuts. ‘Ab-e-egholveh’, ‘Halva’, ‘Chulu Kabab’, ‘Kateh’ (white rice), ‘Sheriverenj’, ‘maghz’ and ‘zabaan’ were available on Iran stall.

Every stall had recipes booklets and country’s profile for students, which helped them to understand the taste as well as about the country’s profile. Students were speaking about their designated countries.

All countries have diversified their foods by means of preparation and cooking methods so the purpose of this activity was to build self-esteem and let children be exposed to different foods of Asian countries.
