The glamorous daughter of a former Uzbek dictator - the ex-richest woman in the Soviet Union - has 'died from poisoning' after being locked up in a psychiatric institute for two years.

The sensational claims regarding billionaire Gulnara Karimova emerged from authoritarian Uzbekistan today. Tweets from her Twitter account last week - about how she apparently wanted ex-Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to manage the national team - had been claimed to be fake before news of the death emerged.

Gulnara had been thought locked away out of sight since her father purged her in 2013 - and the astonishing claims cannot be immediately verified. The 44-year-old daughter of Islam Karimov - the first president of Uzbekistan when it became independent in 1991 who himself died of a cardiac arrest just a few weeks ago - was reported several months ago to have been shut away in a psychiatric hospital.
