Pesco asked to expedite work on grids, feeders

PESHAWAR: Advisor to Prime Minister Amir Muqam on Thursday urged the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) authorities to expedite work on upgrading and construction of grid-stations and feeders to provide relief to masses in the coming summer.Chairing a meeting at Wapda House here, he also directed the Pesco high-ups to fill the vacant posts in order to improve the performance of entity.Pesco Chief Executive Anwarul Haq Yusufzai and all the superintendent engineers and XENs attended the meeting.

Indian Army denies 11 troops’ killing

NEW DELHI: Indian Army on Thursday denied Pakistan's claim of killing 11 Indian soldiers in cross border firing across the Line of Control (LoC), reports foreign media. “No fatal casualties due to Pak firing on 14, 15 or 16 November. Pak Army Chief claim of killing Indian soldiers on 14 Nov false,” Northern Command of Indian Army said in a tweet.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan has said the provincial government is establishing “Inspectorate of Education” to analyse performance of the schools from all aspects. He was speaking at a meeting with the representative delegation of the Private Schools Association in Peshawar on Wednesday, said a handout.

The proposed Private Schools Regulatory Authority and Assessment Examination of 5th class was discussed in details. The owners asked the government to give time to the private schools for preparing the students for the assessment and give due consideration to their opinion.

India test-fires variant of Prithvi II missile

BHUBANESWAR: India on Wednesday test-fired a variant of the Prithvi-II missile to mimic an enemy projectile. This missile will serve as a target for the advanced air defence interceptor missile to be tested by India in the next few days. Test of the Prithvi-II variant, a surface-to-surface medium-range ballistic missile, took place at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea. The target missile was tested to gauge its performance ahead of the actual interceptor test in the next couple of days. In previous tests, the incoming missile had fallen short of target or had developed a snag with the result that the interceptor missile could not be tested properly.

Iran overtakes Saudi Arabia as top oil supplier to India

TEHRAN: Iran overtook Saudi Arabia as India’s top oil supplier in October, shipping data showed. Iran used to be India’s second-biggest oil supplier, a position it ceded to Iraq after tough Western sanctions over its nuclear development programme limited Tehran's exports and access to finance. But India’s oil imports from Iran have shot up this year after those sanctions were lifted in January. In October they surged more than threefold compared with the same month last year, rising to 7,89,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to ship tracking data and a report compiled by Thomson Reuters Oil Research and Forecasts.

Man wants sister’s killers arrested

PESHAWAR: A resident of Chitral, Latifullah, has demanded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and provincial police chief to arrest the killers of his sister. Addressing a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Latifullah alleged that her sister Ammara was killed allegedly by her husband Inayat and his first wife by feeding her poison in meals. He said three years ago, Ammara got married to Inayat, a resident of Peshawar. “When his first wife came to know about his second marriage, she started threatening to kill Ammara,” he alleged. In the meanwhile, he said, Ammara gave birth to a baby and went back to her parents’ home. He added that his sister refused to go to her husband’s house.

CHARSADDA: A jirga on Thursday recovered a donated piece of land for a graveyard from the alleged land grabbers after successful mediation.The jirga comprising local elders and notables was active for quite some time to settle the dispute. The alleged land grabbers had constructed markets on the land of the Chara Jore graveyard in Tangi area in the district.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday condemned the suicide attack in Kabul that led to the loss of precious lives of Afghan security personnel. Pakistan conveys its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives and prayers for speedy recovery of the injured, a Foreign Office statement issued here said. Pakistan reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations and reaffirms its commitment for continued efforts and cooperation for eliminating this menace, the statement added.

Eight terrorists arrested as

Daesh network unearthed in Lahore

LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) unearthed a Daesh network in the city and arrested its eight members. It was reported that an intelligence wing had been reconnoitering the terrorists for the last three months who were luring innocent citizens to Syria and Afghanistan through social media. Nabeel Abu Abdullah, who was among the arrested people, was leading the organisation in the Punjab. The CTD officials recovered literature, cellphones and a laptop from their possession.

22 booked for damaging furniture at Mardan hospital

MARDAN: The police on Wednesday registered cases against 22 people for damaging furniture and creating panic at the Mardan Medical Complex, sources said. Officials at the Sheikh Maltoon Town Police Station said that Mardan Medical Complex Director Dr Tariq Mahmood sent an application stating that on Tuesday night doctors were present at the hospital when some people brought an injured identified as Salman Khan, a resident of Yar Hussain town in the Swabi district. He added that relatives of the injured person said that he had fired at himself to commit suicide. He added the doctor on duty took him to the operation theatre and started surgery. Dr Tariq Mahmood said the injured died of his injuries during the operation. Later his relatives broke furniture and windowpanes at the hospital.

2,886,000 saplings distributed in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: The Forest Department, Lower Dir, had so far distributed a total of 288,6000 free of cost plants among the people of Dir under the Billion Trees Aforestation Project (BTAP) of the provincial government. The sources added that under the woodlot programme of the BTAP, the Forest Department, Lower Dir, had planted a total of 352,1525 plants on 327 hectares of land all over the district. So far 76 sites had been selected for ‘Closure Activities’ a component of the BTAP, the sources added.

Gang rape suspect’s bail challenged

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed a gang rape suspect to ensure his appearance on the next hearing of prosecution department’s appeal challenging bail granted to him following a ‘compromise’ with the victim party. The prosecution pleaded that a sessions court granted bail to suspect Adnan Sanaullah, a former office-bearer of PML-N Youth Wing, after the victim girl tendered an affidavit in his favour. It said the affidavit filed by the girl was a result of pressure exerted on her family by the accused party.
