The Sindh Food Department is yet to receive Rs300 million recovered by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from accused provincial officials under the system of plea bargain.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was told this on Tuesday during a meeting at the new Sindh Secretariat regarding the provincial food department.
The meeting was informed that the food department had also not been given Rs2.2 billion as dues from the provincial relief and rehabilitation departments for the procurement of wheat.
The meeting also was informed that the Balochistan government originally had to pay Rs1488 million for the procurement of wheat from Sindh since 2006-07.
Later on, the Sindh government also waived Rs600 as mark-up it had to get from the Balochistan government. Still the Balochistan government is supposed to pay Rs 888 million to Sindh, as it has stopped paying its dues since the financial year 2010-11, the meeting was informed.
The chief minister was informed on the occasion that the food department at present had the stock of 126,000 tons of wheat as from November 2016 till March 31, 2017 the Sindh province needed 800,000 tons of wheat as per the provincial needs of wheat consumption.
The province during this period is going to export 168,0000 tons of wheat as in this scenario, the province will have 292,000 tons of surplus wheat.
The chief minister directed the food officials concerned to keep good care of the wheat stored in the government storage centres.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Food Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, principal secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, finance secretary Hassan Naqvi and food secretary Sajjad Abbasi.
