Lithotripsy centre established at ATH

ABBOTTABAD: The Lithotripsy Centre has been established in Urology Department of the Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH), increasing the number of beds from 24 to 40.Public Relation Officer of ATH Shafiqur Rehman told reporters that the lithotripsy machine worth Rs48 million had also been installed. The installation of the lithotripsy machine at the ATH, he said, would facilitate the patients belonging to the Hazara Division as they have to go to the Kidney Centre in Hayatabad in Peshawar or the Army Urology Centre in Rawalpindi. He said free procedure of 13 female and seven male patients were conducted during training session in the Urology Department successfully. “The patients had to spend over Rs 25,000 to remove the stone through laser treatment but now the cost has been reduced to only Rs.5,000,” he added.

Two victims of Karachi trains’ accident laid to rest

BUREWALA: Two victims of the Karachi trains incident were laid to rest in Chak 315/EB on Friday. Faryad Ahmad, 26, and his aunt Shamim Bibi were living in Karachi for 12 years and some days ago Shamim’s brother Saleem died and they visited Burewala to condole his death. Now they were heading back to Karachi when they died in the trains collision.

Bus kills man

BAHAWALPUR: A man died and another sustained injuries, when a speeding bus entered a market in Faqir Wali on Friday. Balli, 20, was working in a shop when the uncontrolled bus hit him. As a result, he died on the spot. Another man suffered injuries in the incident. Reportedly, the driver lost the control of the speeding vehicle. The bus also damaged several motorcycles and shops.

KP governor calls on Punjab CM

LAHORE: KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and discussed matters of mutual interest, political situation of the country and promotion of inter-provincial harmony.The chief minister said the Punjab government had included talented students of KP and other provinces in its education programmes, that was resulting in promotion of national solidarity, brotherhood and inter-provincial harmony. He said negative politics of stubbornness was harmful to country, so the people had locked down the negative politics of those threatening to lock down Islamabad. He said futile efforts of some political elements to create anarchy in the country had badly failed.

‘British doctors to visit Kashmir’

LAHORE: Member British House of Lords Lord Nazir Ahmad has said that he intends to take British doctors to Kashmir to treat the Kashmiris injured by the brutal pellet guns of the Indian occupation forces and he needs human rights organisations’ support in this regard.Addressing a press conference at a hotel on Friday, he said that there was no medical treatment available for the Kashmiris being subjected to the worst state terrorism in Indian-held Kashmir.Lord Nazir stressed that the international community should put pressure on the Indian government to provide medical facilities to the injured and also provide assistance to international doctors who wanted to extend help to the injured.

DASKA: A girl was gang raped in the city area on Friday.The daughter of Muhammad Usman was walking near a mosque when accused Usman, Ibrar and Wahab took her to a house and gang-raped her. Police have registered a case.

Pak air chief meets Chinese defence minister

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Pakistan Air Force Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman on Friday met the Chinese Defence Minister, General Chang Wanquan, in Beijing. The air chief conveyed the best wishes and greetings from the government and the people of Pakistan and thanked the Chinese government for unwavering support to Pakistan during the meeting, a PAF news release stated. The discussions were held in a candid manner and in cordial environment in which both the dignitaries agreed to take the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries to further heights. The Chinese defence minister lauded PAF’s leading role in the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb and reiterated his resolve to stand by Pakistan in every hour of need. Later, both the dignitaries exchanged souvenirs. Earlier upon arrival, the CAS was accorded a warm welcome.

CTD arrests TTP militantfrom Mansehra

MANSEHRA: The Counter Terrorism Department, police and intelligence agencies on Friday arrested a militant during an operation in the Mansehra district. A joint operation was carried out in the Tanda area of Mansehra by police, CTD and intelligence agencies in which an operative of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Swat chapter, was arrested. Security agencies and CTD also recovered six kilograms of explosive material and a hand grenade during the operation. Police shifted the arrested terror suspect to an unknown location for investigation.

Six dead in Jhal Magsi tribal clash

JHAL MAGSI: Six people were killed on Friday and five others injured in an armed clash between two sub clans of Lashari tribe in the Gandawah area of district. The armed tribesmen of two sub clans of Lashari tribe, including Habiban and Balachni, opened indiscriminate fire at each other in the Qazi Ismail area of Gandawah, the headquarters of Jhal Magsi district, which resulted in the death of six men and injuries to five others. Two sub clans of local Lashari tribe who have old enmity attacked each other with sophisticated weapons, Deputy Commissioner Jhal Magsi Capt. (retd) Muhammad Waseem said. The Levies Force officials said that six men were killed and five others were injured in the exchange of fire. The cause was said to be old enmity. The dead and injured were shifted to Jhal Magsi hospital. Later the injured were referred to Larkana Civil Hospital due to their critical condition. According to doctors conditions of three injured were serious.

BAHAWALPUR: A two-year-old girl was burnt alive when fire erupted in her house in Mohallah Noorpura, Chishtian, on Thursday night. The fire broke out in the house of Shahzad when he had gone outside.

LHC CJ arrives in Bahawalpur on two-day visit

BAHAWALPUR: Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court arrived here on a two-day visit in connection with the LHC’s 150th anniversary celebrations. The LHC chief justice will administer oath to four additional judges of the LHC on their confirmation in a ceremony at the LHC Bahawalpur Bench at 11am today. They are Justice Ch Muhammad Iqbal, Justice Masood Abid, Justice Ch Mushtaq Ahmad and Justice Khalid Mehmood. The LHC CJ will also chair a special ceremony in Noor Mahal in connection with the LHC’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Man, son die of suffocation

BAHAWALPUR: A man and his son died of suffocation while cleaning a tubewell near Dara Chacharran on Friday. Noor Muhammad and his son Ajmal were cleaning a tubewell when they fell unconscious due to toxic gas. In the meantime, a heap of mud also fell on them. Later, Rescue 1122 staff took out both father and son. However, Ajmal had died while Noor Muhammad died after reaching the THQ Hospital, Ahmadpur East.

Man sentenced to life term in murder case

NOWSHERA: Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Jabbar Khan awarded life imprisonment and Rs100,000 fine to the convict of a murder on Friday. The court awarded sentence to Maqbool after hearing arguments from both sides. Abdul Jalil, Maqbool, Bilal and Inam had allegedly shot dead nazim of the Pir Sabaq Union Council Qazi Mehboob Ali in 2008. On the complaint of the deceased’s brother Gohar Ali Shah, the police had registered the case. Abdul Jalil had died while Inam had already been awarded life imprisonment. After hearing of the councils, Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Jabbar Khan awarded life term. The court also imposed Rs100, 000 as fine on him.

Three POs among nine arrested in Swat

MINGORA: The police arrested nine outlaws, including three proclaimed offenders (POs), and seized arms and narcotics during an action in Banr on Friday, official sources said. They said acting on a tip-off about the presence of the POs, the police reached the Banr area and arrested Kashif, Samiullah and Roman. They were wanted by the police in a murder case. Meanwhile, the police raided the den of the drug-traffickers and seized three kilograms of hashish after arresting six accused whose names could not be ascertained.

Fertiliser seized at Torkham border

LANDIKOTAL: Customs authorities foiled a bid to smuggle fertiliser to Afghanistan and arrested one person at the Torkham border, official said on Friday. A Customs official at the Torkham border told reporters that during routine checking they stopped two Afghanistan-bound trucks loaded with different commodities. He said they recovered 1,600 bags of fertilisers worth Rs8 million from both the trucks. The fertilisers bags were concealed under the construction material. An Afghan citizen was also arrested and sent to the lockup in Landikotal for interrogation, the official said.

Landslide kills two in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: Two persons were killed and another sustained injuries after a heavy mass of mud fell on them in Bazaar Zakhakhel in Landikotal, local sources said on Friday. The sources said three male members of a family were buried alive when they were digging the ground to get mud for repairing their home in Zakhakhel village. Local tribesmen rushed to the site and started the rescue work. Bodies of two victims identified as Abdul Khan and Tiladar were retrieved.

Two women killed in Karak accident

KARAK: Two women were killed and 14 others were injured in a road accident on Bannu-Kohat Road here on Friday. The police sources said a wedding procession was on its way to Surdag area of Karak district from Hangu when one of the vans in the wedding procession rammed into a truck in Khurram Muhammad Zai locality in Banda Daud Shah Tehsil. As a result, two women died on the spot and 14 persons sustained serious injuries. The injured were shifted to the hospitals in Bannu, Kohat and Peshawar.

MINGORA: The much-awaited rain turned the weather cold in Swat district on Friday. The shower which started at around 6am, continued for several hours. The plain areas received rain while the mountains in Madyan and Kalama received snowfall further dropping the mercury in the picturesque valley. With the advent of cold weather, the sale of warm clothes has increased.
