ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has found alleged tax fraud worth millions of rupees against two units involved in manufacturing of pre-fabricated concrete products under jurisdiction of Regional Tax Office (RTO) Rawalpindi and registered two separate FIRs against two persons.
The FBR registered FIRs against father and son for allegedly involving into tax evasion. According to two FIRs registered under section 37A & 37B of Sales Tax Act, 1990, a credible information was received from an informer that Muhammad Zeeshan Sikandar being owner of M/s Sikandar Precast, GT Road Tarakai Mor Sohawa, having national tax number (NTN) 3055635-0 is involved in the massive evasion of sales tax.
This unit, according to FIR, is engaged in the manufacturing of pre-fabricated concrete products i.e. pre cast slabs, pre stressed girders, pre cast boundary walls etc, and subsequently supply in different areas of the country. The preliminary investigation has revealed that M/s Sikandar Precast, GT Road Tarakai Mor, has been operating since 01-01-2012.
Necessary scrutiny of income tax and sales tax returns filed by the unit has been made and to gather more information after getting search warrants u/s 40 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 search of the registered premises of said unit conducted in which cheque books of one bank account has also been retrieved (along with other documents) bearing huge credit entries. The owner of the unit had failed to explain his position before the tax authorities. In this regard three meetings were held with him (to ascertain the actual worth of evasion) but in vain. Moreover, they are also reluctant to provide their purchases and sales records.
In the light of evidence on record and facts, Muhammad Zeeshan Sikandar, proprietor of M/s Sikandar Precast, GT Road, Tarakai More, Sohawa has knowingly, fraudulently and deliberately committed tax fraud in terms of section 2(37), punishable under section 33(11) & 33(13) of the Sales Tax Act, 1990; read with Section 37A and 37B of the Sales Tax Act, 1990.
The second FIR registered by the FBR states that they received information that Abbas Sikandar, being owner of M/s Sikanclar Builders, GT Road, Small Industrial Estate, Rathian, Jhelum bearer of NTN 3902180-7, is involved in massive evasion of sales tax. The unit is engaged in the manufacturing of pre-fabricated concrete products i.e. pre cast slabs, pre stressed griders, double tee and pre cast boundary walls etc, and subsequently supply in different areas of the country.
In this regard, tax profile of M/s Sikandar Builders has been scrutinised by the FBR and found that this said unit is allegedly involved in evasion of sales tax in millions of rupees. In pursuance of information received necessary scrutiny of income tax and sales tax returns filed by the unit have been made and to gather more information after getting search warrants u/s 40 of the Salts Tax Act, 1990 search of the registered office of said unit conducted.
