In order to encourage and motivate youths of Pakistan to acquire skills and training in technical and vocational streams, the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) on Tuesday organised a “National Skills Competition” at the Memon Industrial & Technical Institute.
A statement issued by the Motorway Police said about 200 trainees of different vocational education and training (TVET) institutes participated in the competition and exhibited their skills in 11 diversified trades.
The trades selected for the competition included welding, beautician, dress making, fashion designing, textile designing fine arts, cooking and driving etc. Zulifqar Ahmad Cheema, NAVTTC Executive Director, was the chief guest of the ceremony.
On the occasion, the NAVTTC executive director appreciated the work of trainees and informed that currently 25,000 trainees were being given TVET training in different trades all over the country through the NAVTTC.
He apprised the audience that in the upcoming skill development programmes, the number of target trainees all over Pakistan had been increased to empower the unemployed and underprivileged youth of the country.
He highlighted the future plans of the NAVTTC, which include establishment of a skill development university and a centre of excellence in each province. Zulifqar Ahmad Cheema also distributed cash prizes of Rs25,000, Rs20,000 and Rs15,000 among the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position holders of each trade respectively.
On the occasion, DIG Motorway Police Dr Walilullah, DG NAVTTC Nabeela Umer and other dignitaries were also present.
In driving skills competition, Nasrullah Jamali, trainee of the Road Safety Institute of Motorway Police at New Saeedabad, secured first position.
As per a contract between the Motorway Police and the NAVTTC, driving classes are arranged and the successful candidates are awarded certificates, according to the statement.
It said the training also helped in finding a job and recently six candidates got jobs in the Federal Board of Revenue, the Pak Navy and the National Highway Authority.
