In the first intra-party election since the disassociation from its London leadership, Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan elected Dr Farooq Sattar as its convener and Aamir Khan as senior deputy convener.
This was announced through a press release issued by the party. As many as 35 candidates were elected for the ‘Rabita Committee’, from a total of 49 aspirants.
The statement informed that 12,623 votes were cast by the lower and middle-tier leadership of the party in its election, of which, 195 votes were rejected.
With 11,930 votes, Dr Farooq Sattar was elected as convener and Aamir Khan, by taking the second highest votes from the party activists, 11,230, was elected as Senior Deputy Convener.
Kunwar Naveed Jameel received 10,890 votes, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui got 10,845 votes, Shahid Pasha bagged 10,781 votes and Nasreen Jalill received 10,795 votes to claim the deputy convener spot.
In light of its recently amended constitution, Farooq Sattar and Aamir Khan were given the highest posts of the party, based on their respective vote count.
Earlier, on Sunday, MQM-P had dissolved its entire party structure and declared the intra-party polls held a few months ago null and void.
Resolution against KP CM
The opposition lawmakers of the Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) in the Sindh Assembly has submitted a resolution in the secretariat of the assembly against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, recommending an action against him under treason charges, for his alleged statements promoting provincialism, violence, anarchy in the country, and serious rift among Pakistanis.
The resolution was submitted on Tuesday under Rule No 256 of the Rules of Procedure of Sindh Assembly by the lawmakers of MQM, namely Muhammad Moin Aamir Pirzada, Naila Munir, Syed Qamar Abbas Rizvi, Nishat Muhammad Zia Qadri, and Jamal Ahmed.
The draft of the resolution states: “This house strongly condemns highly irresponsible statements of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, in which he promoted provincialism, rift among Pakistanis, and threatened to cause serious damage to Pakistan.”
The resolution added: “This house demands the provincial government to convey its opinion to the federal government so as to take measures on an immediate basis for an action under Article Six of the Constitution in view of the derogatory remarks uttered against the motherland that tantamount to sedition against Pakistan”.
