A spokesman for the force said that when an intelligence-driven raid was carried out on suspected hideouts of a banned outfit in an area of the town, the terrorists opened fire on the paramilitaries and tried to escape. The law enforces cordoned off the streets around the hideouts and returned fire, killing the suspects.

During the shootout, two Rangers personnel were injured. Police later attended the scene and they were handed over weapons and ammunition seized from the hideouts.
