70 suspects arrested in Hangu

HANGU: The police arrested 70 suspected persons during search and strike operations and seized arms and narcotics in various areas in the district on Thursday, an official said.Talking to reporters , District Police Officer Shah Nazar Khan said that in view of the Muharram-ul-Haram, the police launched search operations in Pass Killay, Babar Maila, Lodhikhel, Shana Warai, Darband, Bahadur Banda and Shahukhel arrested more than 70 suspects. The police also seized arms and narcotics during the operations, he added.He said the police arrested 100 motorcyclists for not bearing number plates. Pillion riding, use of loudspeakers, unregistered vehicles and wall chalking have been banned in the district.
Twenty-seven cases of dengue in Thar

SUKKUR: Twenty-seven cases of Dengue have been registered in Thar so far. The district health officer of Tharparkar told the media that most of the 27 cases of Dengue had been shifted to hospitals in Hyderabad. He said that some officials of the Malaria Control Program visited the areas and provided machines for fumigation. The official said that the health department had advised the people to use mosquito nets and some other precautionary measures to guard against Dengue. He, however, said that the situation was not alarming.
HBL hands over Rs5m cheque to Islamia College

PESHAWAR: The Habib Bank Limited (HBL) handed over on Thursday a cheque for Rs5 million to the Islamia College University Peshawar as scholarship for the poor students. Regional Operational Chief Tauqeer Mazhar along with Irfan Raheem, Branch Manager, University of Peshawar Campus, gave the cheque to Professor Dr Naushad Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Islamia College University Peshawar. Other officials of the university, including Registrar Dr Tauqeer Alam, Director Sports Irfan Marwat and Public Relations Officer Ali Hoti were present as well. The vice-chancellor in his brief address thanked the HBL for the gesture, adding the scholarship would help students in academic pursuits.
People asked to maintain peace

NOWSHERA: The district administration has made foolproof security arrangements for Muharram.Talking to reporters on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Iftikhar Alam asked Ulema, traders and peace committee members to play role in maintaining law and order.Speaking on the occasion, District Police Officer Wahid Mehmood said that CCTV cameras had been installed on the mourning procession routes. He added that hotels and inns had been kept under surveillance. The official asked the people to keep a check on suspicious persons at public places.
GHALLANAI: Tribespeople on Thursday at a jirga in Bhai Daag vowed to defend the country against the Indian aggression.
The jirga, which was attended by tribal elders, students and tribespeople, asked the government to allow the tribespeople to fight against the Indian security forces. —Correspondent
