25,000 jobless youths undergoing training

Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Programme meant to train unemployed youths on productive skills to avail themselves of better employment opportunities is progressing well.

According to an official concerned, in the third phase of the programme, 25,000 unemployed youths are being given training in different technical fields and they will pass out in November this year. He said earlier, around 50,000 unemployed youth were trained in different skills in two phases.

"Trainees are not only being trained free of charge but also, monthly stipend of Rs3,000 is paid to every student during six months training and Rs4,000 to those from Fata," he said.

The official said the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission had selected good training institutes, while the provincial governments selected public institutes for the purpose. "Seminary graduates with certificates and diploma equivalent to matriculation are also eligible for the training," he said.
