Directs officers to consider training of probationer SIs in Turkey;
Shahbaz orders survey for hepatitis patients’ data
LAHORE: Male and female sub-inspectors (SIs) who performed outstandingly during the training at Police College Sahala and won honours met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Talking to the new SIs, the chief minister said they would have to play their due role in maintaining peace, setting up a crime-free society and improvement in Thana system.
He said it was a result of the merit policy of Punjab government that the children of poor families were also becoming police officers. He said that Police College Sahala would be made the best training institute of the country. He said that police department should provide best facilities to the trainees. He also directed the officers concerned to consider training of probationer SI in Turkey.
The probationer SIs winning honours paid rich tributes to merit policy of the chief minister and said that they were imparted highest standard of training at Sahala.
Probationer SI Karam Elahi said that had there not been merit policy, he would have not got the job in police. Probationer SI Maryam Faiz said that she had no Safarish and got this status only due to the merit policy.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Saturday and reviewed the pace of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute project and the measures for controlling hepatitis.
According to a handout, the chief minister said that Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute project was a milestone in the provision of modern treatment facilities for kidney and liver patients and completion of this project would result in availability of state-of-the-art medical facilities to the patients in the country.
He directed the officers concerned to conduct a survey for collecting authentic data regarding hepatitis patients. He said that prevention was better than cure therefore Hepatitis Control Programme should be implemented in an effective manners and a vigorous awareness campaign should be launched regarding preventive measures against hepatitis. He said that reuse of syringes would have to be checked for prevention against hepatitis. He also directed
that vaccination programme against hepatitis B should also be implemented in an effective manner.
The chief minister directed the officers concerned to constitute a high level committee for this purpose. The committee will review legal and other matters regarding control of hepatitis and submit its report by the end of current month.
