On-duty policeman takes his own life

A Head Constable (HC) working at the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir reportedly committed suicide while on duty on Wednesday.

Officials claimed that HC Tariq Ali Alvi, 42, took his own life by shooting himself with his official pistol in the SSP Malir's office. His colleagues shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.

SHO Shah Lateef Town, Raja Abbas, told The News that the deceased, who joined the force in 1994, was serving as the Guard Commander of the SSP Malir office. Citing personal reasons for the suicide, he informed that Alvi might have taken his life owing to a heated argument with his wife.

In another case, body of an unidentified 60-year-old man was found in a garbage dump in Bihar Colony with Chakiwara police area. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital for legal formalities by the police authorities who informed that the man was kidnapped by unknown people who killed him and left the body in the dump.

Three die in mishaps

Riding a motorcycle, Waheed, 27, lost his life and his friend Murad, 26 got injured, when a speeding truck ran over them near 4K Chowrangi situated in North Karachi. Abandoning the vehicle, the driver managed to flee from the site as an angry mob set the truck on fire. Police took control of the situation later and shifted both, the dead and injured, to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legalities.

Crossing the road, Rana Dildar, 72 got killed when he came under a vehicle near Gulshan-e-Hadeed at National Highway.

Malik Muhammad Hayat, 30, lost his life after he got accidentally electrocuted while fixing a live wire in a shop in Baldia.
