Prince William's earthshot prize names finalist behind world's largest offshore wind farm

Prince William and Kate Middleton join Earthshot’s climate push.

On Monday, September 21, the official Instagram handle of Prince and Princess of Wales shared Earthshot’s latest climate post on Stories.

However, in the post the environmental prize celebrated the Danish energy company, Orsted’s evolution from a coal and oil based energy company to an offshore wind leader and highlighted why it was selected as Earthshot Prize finalist.

The caption stated, “In just 2 decades, orsted went from one of Europe’s most polluting energy companies - to one of the world’s most efficient.”

It continued, “Recognising that the energy industry is a contributor of around 70% of the CO2 emissions, globally - and seeing what climate change was doing to our planet - Ørsted decided they could not be a part of it.”

“Hornsea 2 is an offshore wind farm, where just one rotation of a single turbine generates enough power to supply one home for 24 hours. Hornsea 3 is currently under construction and, once complete, will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm.”

‘This is why Ørsted are named a Finalist for the 2026 Earthshot Prize to Fix Our Climate,” the caption concluded.

It is pertinent to mention that Prince William is a founder and president of Earthshot Prize.
