Trump to meet Mamdani, Macron and Xi Jinping during high-stakes diplomacy week
Trump is scheduled to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday
US President Donald Trump is set to begin a busy week of diplomatic meetings as he travels to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
According to The Guardian, Trump is expected to meet several international leaders on the sidelines of the annual gathering, including Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez took power after the US raided Venezuela and arrested her predecessor, Nicolás Maduro, in January. She has since helped negotiate an oil agreement with the Trump administration.
Trump is also expected to hold talks on Tuesday with leaders from Persian Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, amid the ongoing war with Iran.
The president indicated over the weekend that he was open to meeting Iranian leaders as the US and Iran continue exchanging strikes.
On Wednesday, Trump is scheduled to host Chinese President Xi Jinping and is expected to discuss trade, artificial intelligence and the war with Iran.
Before those meetings, Trump is scheduled to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday.
Trump is also expected to hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron later on Monday as his packed week of domestic and international meetings gets underway.
