Earthquake shakes Japan with 37 injuries
Tokyo and surrounding areas were hit by 5.9 magnitude earthquake, many injuries reported
On early Sunday, Japan has been hit by an earthquake, which was felt in Tokyo and nearby areas. 37 people have suatained injuries; however, authorities have declined danger of tsunami.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the magnitude of earthquake was5.9 and its epicenter was in the southern Ibaraki prefecture with a depth of 70 kilometers (42 miles).
Accoridngto prefectural officials and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, among 37 injuries, Tokyo has the highest rate of injuries with 15 were reported, while nine inSaitama, eight in Kanagawa, four in Chiba, and one in Ibaraki.
Mostly people got injured by either by hurting themselves or hitting themselves agiants doors or furniture as theearthquake struck when most people were asleep and left their places in panic.
It is pertinent to mention that a woman in her 80s suffereda serious hip injury after falling off her bed inYokohama,in the Kanagawa prefecture, as reported byYomiuri newspaper.
