How Prince George almost had different name

Prince William and Princess Catherine had a disagreement about Prince George’s name before his birth.

The royal editor Russell Myers revealed in his new book, William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era that when the Princess of Wales was pregnant with George, the couple had different suggestions for the baby name. He said, “One thing [William and Kate] couldn’t concur on was a name.”

According to Russell, as the royal couple narrowed down the choices, they eventually had different top picks. William “settled on a shortlist of two names for a boy: George and Louis,” while "Catherine had her heart set on Alexander for a boy or Alexandra (also Queen Elizabeth’s middle name) for a girl.”

Russel also revealed, "William had privately voiced his preference for having a girl, and was keen to incorporate a tribute to his late mother, most likely in the form of a middle name."

In the end, the couple blended both choices into one as George became the first name of their son while Alexander became the middle name.

It is pertinent to mention that Prince George was born on July 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in London and is next in line to the British throne after his father, Prince William.
