Madison Shipman becomes first woman to call a Blue Jays regular-season game

Madison Shipman will make Toronto Blue Jays history on Friday when she becomes the first woman to call a regular-season game for the club on television.

According to Sportsnet, Shipman will make her regular-season TV broadcast debut alongside play-by-play commentator Ben Shulman as the Blue Jays open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres.

Shipman will work all three games of the series, marking a milestone for the Blue Jays' broadcast team and Sportsnet.

Although this is her regular-season debut, it is not her first appearance in the broadcast booth for the organisation.

Sportsnet reported that she previously called two Blue Jays spring training games in Dunedin in February.

Shipman played collegiate softball at the University of Tennessee before moving into broadcasting.

She later worked as a baseball analyst and commentator for ESPN before joining the Blue Jays' broadcast team in 2023.

Her debut comes as Toronto heads into San Diego in good form after winning its previous three-game series against the San Francisco Giants and carrying a two-game winning streak into Friday's matchup.

The Blue Jays and Padres begin their three-game series on Friday night, with Shipman set to make franchise history from the broadcast booth.
