Iran breaks silence after IAEA chief says nuclear inspections ‘will take place’

The standoff over the future of Iran’s nuclear facilities inspection has intensified as all sides including the US, Iran and UN nuclear watchdog offered contradictory statements regarding the return of inspectors to the country.
Over the week, Iran has denied any possibility of returning the nuclear inspectors to the country, citing such concessions were not part of high-level talks conducted in Switzerland.
In a recent development, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi further shed light on this issue.
In a post on X, Gharibabadi posted, “In Switzerland, no meeting was held with Grossi, despite his request. There is also no program for access to the attacked facilities and nuclear materials.”
Talking about the possibility of such a breakthrough in UN nuclear inspections, he said, “These issues will solely be examined and resolved within the framework of the final agreement and as a result of the other party's practical action in terminating all sanctions.”
Gharibabadi stated that during the recent technical negotiations in Switzerland, no Iranian officials met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, despite requests from Grossi for such an engagement.

The remarks from the Iranian official come after IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi asserted that nuclear inspections will surely take place. According to the agency’s chief, the UN nuclear watchdog will definitely carry out “nuclear inspections in Iran soon” as a part of a 14-points memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the US and Iran on June 14.
Speaking to the press conference in Japan, "The inspections will indeed take place…We will be working on the modalities — dates, procedures, places — very soon,” he added.
Later on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai asserted that Iran has no plans to allow IAEA inspectors to enter nuclear sites that were damaged during the conflict.
