'But then move on! Worry about the current boyfriend,' Sophie Cunnhingham said
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham criticized Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese following Reese’s social media activity involving her past and present romantic interests.
The controversy arose when Reese reposted a “lowlight” video of Jalen Durent being dunked on by Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. the current boyfriend of Reese.
Duren is widely rumoured to be Reese’s ex, fans and analysts were quick to view the post as a calculated jab, aligning with the intensity of their first-round playoff matchup.
Cunningham and co-host West Wilson discussed the situation on their podcast Show Me Something. Cunningham suggested that Reese seemed intent on embarrassing Duren.
Cunningham said, “Something had to have happened for [Reese] to keep, I don't know, wanting to embarrass him in some way.”
When her co-host suggested no conflict existed, Cunningham advised Reese to focus on her current relationship rather than the past drama.
“But then move on! Worry about the current boyfriend,” Cunningham responded.
The viral social media post led to Detroit fans chanting Reese’s name at Carter Jr. during a high-stakes Game 7.
Despite off-court distractions, Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons staged a spectacular comeback, winning three straight games to topple the Magic and advance to the second round.
Angel Reese has not responded to Cunningham’s criticisms as she prepares for the start of the WNBA season.
