Ford has recalled vehicles across Canada after identifying two separate issues that could increase the risk of a crash.
According to Transport Canada, one recall affects about 627,267 trucks, vans and SUVs due to a possible software problem involving the integrated trailer module.
The notice says the issue could prevent trailer lights from working properly when the vehicle is towing. In some cases, the trailer brakes may also fail.
Transport Canada warned the malfunction could create a safety risk because drivers behind the trailer may not know when the vehicle ahead is braking, turning or changing lanes.
A warning message reading “trailer brake module fault” may appear if the problem occurs.
Drivers of affected vehicles are expected to receive a “wireless over-the-air software update” to fix the issue.
Owners can also visit a Ford dealership for repairs.
A second recall affects an estimated 54,078 Ford and Lincoln SUVs in Canada due to a possible defect in the front windshield wiper motors.
“Due to a misalignment of the motor’s cover terminal with the brush card terminal during assembly, a poor connection can develop, leading to a loss of electrical continuity,” the company said in an email to CTV News.
Ford said the defect could cause the wipers to work intermittently or stop working entirely. The company said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the issue.
