MULTAN: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said the supreme sovereignty in the Constitution belongs only to Allah. “No one is above the Constitution, and with the 27th Amendment, a complete arrangement has been made to subvert the judiciary.. these people did not respect the judiciary earlier, now they have become disrespectful and are ready to eliminate it.”
Addressing the Multan District Bar Association on Wednesday, the JI chief said the President or any other big person was not exempt from accountability. “This amendment is contrary to the Constitution and is not acceptable under any circumstances. The system of accountability is so important that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) himself presented him for accountability. The Prophet (PBUH) had said even if Hazrat Fatima (SA) bint Muhammad steals, her hand will also be cut off. The nations in the past were destroyed because they would capture the poor and leave the rich,” he added.
Hafiz Naeem said in a country where parties run on inheritance, playing with the Constitution and law was not a strange thing, adding a parallel system against the Constitution and democracy was running in the country. “In Pakistan, elections for lawyers and Jamaat-e-Islami are held on time, while those who sing the tune of democracy do not hold elections even in their own parties,” he said.
“There is usury in economy in Pakistan. This economic system is making the rich richer and the poor poorer. The government claims that the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has reduced poverty, but the World Bank reports that poverty has increased further in the last three years and the number of people living below the poverty line is continuously increasing.
