Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Tuesday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) where he directed the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to provide digital and local intelligence to arrest fugitive and wanted suspects involved in murder, extortion and other serious crimes.
He directed that the district police officers should be aware of and take help from the “digital tools” of the CTD. Officials said the review meeting on the overall steps taken by the police to arrest fugitive and wanted suspects in murder and extortion cases was chaired by IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon.
Zonal and divisional DIGs gave a briefing on the arrests of absconding and wanted accused in murder cases and the police steps taken in this context. The police have been tasked to arrest absconding and wanted accused in murder cases, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho said and added that 65% of the reasons for murder in Karachi are based on tribal enmity and conflict.
He the police took full and timely action on extortion complaints in Karachi and noted that personal and business transactions are also being tried to be given the form of extortion. The overall graph of murder and extortion incidents has come down with the arrests of wanted suspects, said IGP Memon and added that by arresting the suspects involved in murder, bloody tribal enmities and conflicts can be prevented. It is inevitable to face difficulties in arresting fugitive and wanted suspects in murder cases, he remarked.
The IGP directed the CTD to ensure the provision and sharing of digital and local intelligence for the arrest of notorious fugitive and wanted suspects. He said teams should be formed on intelligence-based information and they should be tasked regularly. The police actions related to the arrests of fugitive and wanted suspects of murder should be felt at the public level and provide assistance to local dignitaries to resolve tribal disputes. A report regarding the arrests of absconding and wanted suspects should be presented in the next meeting, he said.
