The Sindh High Court’s (SHC) development committee has ordered an inquiry into negligent conduct of the provincial building department in respect of construction of courts and bungalows in District Court Matiari, which exhibited serious structural damage soon after the completion.
Project Director Access to Justice Program Sohail Ahmed Mashori sent a letter to the Chief Minister’s inspection, Enquiries and Implementation Team (CMIE&ITD) chairman through law department for initiation of an inquiry into negligent conduct of the building department in respect of construction of eight court buildings and two bungalows in Matiari.
The letter was issued on direction of SHC acting chief justice, who is also the chairman of the SHC Development Committee.
It is pertinent to mention that the Monitoring and Evaluation Cell director general had also declared both schemes as unsatisfactory in his report.
The CMIE&ITD was told to conduct an inquiry into the extent and nature of structural damage as well as misuse and waste of physical and financial resources of public money, construction deficiencies and any deviations from approved standards, causes of negligence, including potential negligence or substandard execution, and recommendations for corrective measures and rehabilitation of damaged portions.
The CMIE&ITD was asked to submit a detailed report within seven working days keeping in view of urgency and gravity of the issue for further necessary action.
