Court issues notice for voice matching in tweet case

ISLAMABAD: Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka issued a notice on a miscellaneous application for voice matching during the hearing of the controversial tweet case against Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha and adjourned the hearing till October 20.

The miscellaneous application was filed by prosecution. Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha appeared in court.

During the hearing, harsh words were exchanged between Prosecutor Usman Rana and Iman Mazari. Prosecutor took the position that the court should fix the case for hearing the next day and pronounce the verdict on the miscellaneous application. Iman Mazari’s lawyer Qaiser Imam could not appear due to the Supreme Court Bar elections.

It may be recalled that the NCCIA has registered a case against Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha. Earlier, on the request of Hadi Ali Chatha, the court had appointed Advocate Kifayatullah as State Counsel, while Special Prosecutor Usman Rana Advocate is representing the government.

In another case, Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain adjourned the hearing without taking any action on the petition of PTI Senator Azam Swati against the blocking of his passport.

During the hearing on the petition on Thursday, Azam Swati could not appear in court due to a death in his family, upon which the court adjourned the hearing of the case until October 27. Azam Swati has filed a petition against the blocking of his passport in the Kohsar police station case.
