A suspected robber allegedly involved in the cold-blooded murder of a man in front of his children during a robbery in Orangi Town has been killed in a police encounter.

The suspect, identified as Noor Hussain, alias Nonu, son of Nasir Hussain, was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police in Orangi Town Sector 11.5 near Dabay Ji Mor.

The operation was carried out after the suspect was identified through CCTV footage of the killing incident that took place on September 29.

According to West DIG Irfan Baloch, when police raided the area to arrest the suspect, he opened fire in an attempt to flee. Police retaliated, resulting in his death. A pistol and ammunition were seized from the scene.

One of his accomplices had already been arrested a few days earlier. DIG Baloch confirmed that Noor had a criminal history and was clearly visible in the CCTV footage firing at a citizen during the September 29 incident that had deeply shaken the local community.

It is pertinent to mention here that the deceased citizen Sajjad Shaukat, 25, was standing outside his house with his two children — one of them in his arms — when two armed motorcyclists approached. CCTV footage later showed that as one of the robbers tried to snatch his phone, the victim resisted. In response, the robber shot him and fled without taking anything.

The victim was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident, caught on camera, quickly went viral on social media and sparked widespread outrage.

The West DIG took notice of the incident and ordered strict action, including the suspension of the local SHO for failing to curb street crime. With Hussain now dead and his accomplice already in custody, police say the case is nearing resolution. Further investigation was under way.
