ANP local leader shot dead in Swat

MINGORA: Unidentified assailants shot dead a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) and former nazim Kala Killay area of Swat’s Kabal tehsil, police officials said on Wednesday.

The officials said that Jafar Khan was returning home after offering Isha prayers at a local mosque when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.His funeral prayers were held in his ancestral village Kala Killay on Wednesday, which was attended by ANP central general secretary Saleem Khan, district president Sher Shah Khan, local elders and a large number of mourners. He was later laid to rest in the village graveyard.

Jafar Khan, who had previously served as a member of the Village Development Council (VDC), was considered an active political figure in the area.Officials said that police have registered a case against unidentified attackers and launched an investigation. However, no arrests have been made so far.The killing has spread fear and anxiety among residents, with many expressing concern over rising incidents of targeted attacks in Swat.
