LAHORE: The rates of chicken remain unchanged in official list, which is against the basic concept of supply and demand to drive the market prices.
The price of chicken meat changed on August 11, when new rates were notified by the district administration. The rates, which were fixed for live chicken at Rs397-411 per kg, and chicken meat at Rs595 per kg, remained unchanged since then.
The district administration is issuing the same rate for the almost one month while also unable to implement these rates as well. The chicken sellers in the city refused to sell the live chicken, if somewhere they agreed to sell the live chicken, they charged Rs500-530 per kg while for the chicken meat they are charging Rs630-750 per kg.
This exposed the governance of the government to control the rates of the perishable items in the provincial metropolis.
Increasing trend in vegetable prices persisted as supplies and quality of fruits and vegetables are affected by floods across Punjab.
Shortage of some vegetables is also seen in markets as sellers said several vegetables are not available in markets. Following the shortage, the rates of majority of vegetables have increased, besides overcharging by the sellers which increased the impact on the buyers.
