KP witnesses surge in terror attacks

PESHAWAR: A surge in terrorist attacks has been witnessed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent weeks, with the highest number of incidents reported in Bannu division.

In the past few weeks, terrorism-related incidents were reported in several districts after militants spilled over from the southern belt into other parts of the province.

An official said that a number of attacks targeting security forces and police were reported in August, resulting in casualties and damage.

Bannu, followed by North Waziristan and Lakki Marwat, recorded the highest number of terrorism incidents this year. All three districts fall under the Bannu division.

Apart from suicide attacks, IED blasts, and ambushes on police and security personnel, terrorists also used drones in several attacks in Bannu division.

According to figures compiled by KP Police, 293 terrorists were killed and 878 arrested across the province in 2025.

During the first eight months of the year, 766 terrorist incidents were reported in KP.

As many as 92 police officials, 166 security personnel, and 159 civilians embraced martyrdom in these attacks.

Bannu district alone witnessed 143 terrorism incidents this year, followed by 124 in North Waziristan and 73 in Lakki Marwat.

In Peshawar, 32 incidents of terrorism were reported, in which eight policemen were martyred. Similarly, Dera Ismail Khan recorded 66 incidents, Khyber reported 49, Bajaur 43, and Tank 38.
