The federal government has initiated the process for appointing a new chairperson of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).
The 3rd meeting of the search committee headed by Federal Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has finalised an advertisement for the position, which includes a requirement of 15 years of relevant experience in higher education and an age limit of 65 years.
The extended tenure of the current HEC chairperson, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, is going to conclude on July 30. Meanwhile, the HEC has called the Vice Chancellors Forum and invited the vice chancellors from all over the country. Through a new email circulated by the Coordination Division of the HEC on Wednesday at 6:13 pm, the vice chancellors across Pakistan have been invited to attend events at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad, on July 24 and July 25.
However, the convention is not being organised to deliberate on the mounting challenges in the higher education sector. On the first day, there will be ‘Go-Live Event’ for IT projects followed by a laptop distribution ceremony on the second day.
