His funeral would be held at Jinnah ground, in Azizabad on Wednesday.

Bukhari was admitted to Ziauddin Hospital after his health deteriorated in March this year but was shifted to his brother’s house two days before his death.

A lawyer by profession, Bukhari had joined the party in 1980 and used to look after the organisation’s legal matters.

He also served as MQM’s deputy parliamentary leader in the provincial assembly, and also served as provincial minister on multiple occasions. He served as Sindh’s Planning and Development minister from 2002 till 2007.

He was not awarded the party ticket due to health issues in the 2013 general elections.

A long time associate of MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Bukhari was said to have been witness to all ups and downs of the party.

MQM convener Nadeem Nusrat and members of coordination committee expressed their heartfelt condolences over Bukhari’s death.

In a statement, Nusrat said his services for the nation could not be forgotten and he would be remembered for his dedication and commitment to the party. He said Bukhari was simple and amiable.

The coordination committee appealed to the people to attend the funeral of Bukhari to pay him tributes.
