Floods killed over 1,000 people countrywide, NA told

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that recent floods and urban flooding across Pakistan resulted in 1,037 deaths, 1,067 injuries, damage to 229,763 houses (130,505 partially damaged and 99,258 fully damaged), and the loss of 22,841 livestock.

The PMO provided detailed data on the losses in a written reply to a question from Ms Huma Akhtar Chugtai.

The fatalities included 332 in Punjab (155 males, 53 females, 124 children), 599 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (341 males, 77 females, 181 children), 90 in Sindh (57 males, 14 females, 19 children), 38 in Balochistan (11 males, 6 females, 21 children), 31 in Gilgit-Baltistan (20 males, 7 females, 4 children), 38 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (17 males, 12 females, 9 children), and 9 in Islamabad Capital Territory (3 males, 1 female, 5 children). Of the 1,067 injured, 665 were in Punjab (262 males, 203 females, 200 children), 218 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (99 males, 49 females, 70 children), 87 in Sindh (29 males, 19 females, 39 children), 5 in Balochistan (2 males, 1 female, 2 children), 53 in Gilgit-Baltistan (37 males, 12 females, 4 children), 37 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (20 males, 13 females, 4 children), and 3 in Islamabad Capital Territory (1 female, 2 children). Of the 229,763 damaged houses, 113,097 were in Punjab (57,963 partially damaged, 55,134 fully damaged), 3,222 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (2,521 partially damaged, 701 fully damaged), 3,332 in Sindh (3,108 partially damaged, 224 fully damaged), 6,370 in Balochistan (4,290 partially damaged, 2,080 fully damaged), 1,260 in Gilgit-Baltistan (481 partially damaged, 779 fully damaged), 2,417 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (2,078 partially damaged, 339 fully damaged), and 65 in Islamabad Capital Territory (64 partially damaged, 1 fully damaged). Of the 22,841 livestock affected nationwide, 3,392 were in Punjab, 5,467 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 577 in Sindh, 4,583 in Balochistan, 7,981 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 239 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and none in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
