ECP announces LG polls schedule for Quetta

QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule for Local Government (LG) elections in Quetta, while rejecting the Balochistan government’s request to postpone the polls.

According to the ECP, the elections will be held for general seats in the urban union councils of Quetta district. Under the announced schedule, nomination papers can be submitted to the respective returning officers from November 13 to 17, 2025, while the initial list of candidates will be published on November 18.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from November 19 to 24, and appeals against the decisions of returning officers regarding acceptance or rejection of papers can be filed with the Appellate Tribunal until November 28. The tribunal will decide on these appeals by December 3.

The revised list of candidates will be issued on December 4, while the final list and withdrawals will be published on December 5. Election symbols will be allotted on December 6, and polling will take place on Sunday, December 28, 2025. The official results are expected to be completed by December 31, 2025.

The ECP has fixed polling hours from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Meanwhile, in a separate announcement, the ECP confirmed that it has rejected the Balochistan government’s request to delay the local government elections in Quetta. The commission stated that, after due consideration, it decided the elections will proceed strictly according to the announced schedule.

Furthermore, the ECP directed the Balochistan provincial government to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the peaceful, transparent, and fair conduct of the polls.
