Prince William on Monday kicked off action-packed trip to Rio de Janeiro, where this year Earthshot Awards ceremony is being held.

On November 3, Kensington Palace issued update as The Prince of Wales received a hero's welcome in Brazil on Monday.

In the photos shared by The Prince and Princess of Wales's official Instagram, the future monarch is seen in good spirits atop the Sugarloaf Mountain.

William waved at fans who had gathered to welcome him after receiving the keys to Rio de Janeiro – a symbolic gesture normally reserved for the King of the city’s world famous Carnival. The move explains the longstanding friendship between the UK and Brazil.

Prince William's office also shared his emotional message, stating, 'Honoured to receive the keys to the city at the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro ahead of an exciting few days for The Earthshot Prize and United for Wildlife.'

It continued, 'Thank you for the warm welcome Mayor.'

Upon his arrival in the beautiful city, William was welcomed by Mayor Eduardo Paes. He then met First Lady Cristine de Souza Assed Paes and their daughter, Isabela Assed Paes, along with Vice Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere and his wife, Second Lady, Victoria de Araujo Cavaliere.

The future monarch was in high spirits as he arrived on a commercial flight and travelled up the peak by cable car.

He looked dashing in navy trousers, a shirt and blazer as he enjoyed the scenic view of mountanous area while walking out onto a helipad.

William was presented with the key to cheers from sightseers on top of the mountain. “Viva Rio!” shouted Mr Paes, as they posed for photographs.

Earlier an exciting video was shared on Kate and William's official Instgram account, captioning: Brazil-Day.

The Prince is set to spend three days in Rio for his Earthshot Prize Summit, which will culminate in a glittering awards ceremony at the Museum of Tomorrow on Wednesday November 5.

He will then travel north to Belem, the gateway to the Amazon, to give a keynote speech at the Cop30 Summit, where he is representing the King and the UK Government.
