Zardari, Shehbaz discuss political situation in country, AJK

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday discussed the overall political situation in the country, the possibility of political change in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and future course of action.

The two leaders met at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. No official word came from the Aiwan-e-Sadr about the meeting.

According to sources, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Senator Farooq H. Naek and Senator Sherry Rehman, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar attended the meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar joined the meeting via video link.

According to sources, the prime minister briefed the president on his recent visit to Saudi Arabia. The discussion also focused on the current political situation in AJK, possible names for the new prime minister and broader government and political matters. The two leaders also discussed the prevailing Pak-Afghan tensions and reviewed the recent developments along the border and their impact on national security and regional stability. Govt committed to addressing PPP reservations as coalition partner.
